Muay Thai (Full Gear Req.)

Muay Thai is the preferred stand-up foundation for mixed martial artist because it is effective, versatile and deliberate, which will put you at a distinct advantage in striking and clinching situations.

Muay Thai is a close-combat martial arts that is known as the “Science of the Eight Limbs” – as the fists, feet, elbows and knees are all used extensively. A practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight points of contact, as opposed to only utilizing your firsts in boxing or fists and feet as used in most other forms of martial arts. Those eight points of contact were meant to simulate the weapons of war – the punches were used as swords, the elbows as hammers, the kicks as spears and the knees as sharp daggers. Similarly, the forearms are used to block incoming strikes from your opponent and the shins are used as armour.

The history of Muay Thai is interlinked with the history of Thailand – Muay Thai has been used to protect the Thai people for as long as written records can trace back. It has been learned extensively by kings and subjects alike, using generations of knowledge to protect their country and their culture. In the ring, Muay Thai is a blur of punches, elbows and kicks that often culminates in knocking out your opponent. This is why many military and law enforcement groups, around the world, prefer Muay Thai for neutralizing potentially dangerous situations without using weapons. Like most competitive martial arts, Muay Thai has a heavy focus on body conditioning – it is specifically designed to promote the level of fitness and toughness required for ring competition and the perfect way to optimize your health.
